The Violence In Tuscon
"One who condones evil is just as guilty as the one who perpetrates it." Martin Luther King Jr.
Gabriel Gifford said it best in November 2010: "Sarah Palin's list has a gun sight over our district. They have to realize there are consequences to that."
Now Gabriel (Arizona's first Jewish Congresswoman, married to a US Navy Captain and Astronaut and volunteer in Katrina relief ground efforts) is fighting to stay alive in a hospital after a bullet went through her brain. Congratulations Sister Sarah, you got your wish - "problem" solved I guess.
Washington Post headline:
The commentators are, rightly so, calling out all these people with their Fox "news" programs or syndicated columns for their role in this incident and Dr. Tiller's murder. The far right is already crying fowl for pointing to them.
But I am calling out every single individual who watches Fox "news", reads or listens to anything of Ann Coulter or equally vile Michelle Malkin, and for every single person who voted Republican or supports Tea Party "anger". You are the one responsible for this shooting - the blood of 9 year old Christina Green is on your hands as well as the other five lives and 14 injured.
The violence has been just below the surface when you have signs claiming the solution to gay marriage with two nooses and you, the people weren't outraged.
The violence was ready to spill over when Dr. Tiller was gunned down in his own church and my 60-something church going neighbor could only say "But he killed children" without any feeling for his family. Without any empathy or sympathy whatsoever.
The violence was at the boiling point when guns were openly at Tea Party rallies and when Arizona pastor, Steven Anderson, reportedly gave a sermon in which he publicly asserted he was praying for President Barack Obama to die and go to hell. And the logical result that Chris Broughton, after hearing pastor Anderson’s shocking prayers in his sermon, he showed up at the President Obama’s appearance the next day with an assault rifle and a hand gun.
